Happy Independence Day, everyone! May your day be filled with fireworks, patriotic music, and fresh watermelon. π
Last year, I wrote a story based on the events of the Revolutionary War. It’s certainly not my best work, but if you’d like you can read itΒ HERE. π
Yesterday night we went to an amazing local fireworks show. I was able to get some pretty cool pictures. I put my favorites together into one big image so that when you scroll through it’s kinda like a virtual fireworks show. Enjoy!
It was a really amazing show! I had so much fun. Here’s a bonus picture of my patriotic shoes. π
Have an amazing week, everyone! Happy 4th!Β πΊπΈΒ πΊπΈΒ πΊπΈ
What did you do/are doing for Independence Day?
That was such a cool idea, Clara! I really enjoyed scrolling through the post, and the fireworks pictures are stunning! We’re going to have a Fourth of July picnic a little later today to celebrate-we’ll eat bratwursts and corn on the cob! I’m not sure what else we’ll be doing today(besides going in the pool), but I’m sure it’ll be fun. π

P.S. Do you know the fiddle tune Liberty? It’s a fun one to do on Independence Day. π

That’s so cool! What are your tips for photographing fireworks? I’m going to our local show tonight, and I’m looking forward to taking pictures. π

Thanks, Bella!
Here’s how I got my pictures:
Turn your shutter speed all the way down until it says “bulb.” In Bulb mode, the shutter will stay open for as long as you hold down the shutter button. I kept the shutter open for 2-3 fireworks to get a good image. You can put your camera on a tripod if you like, but I just held my camera really still and the photos turned out just fine. Also, put your ISO around 200 and your aperture somewhere between 15-20. Hope that helps! π

You have a dSLR, right? If so, turn the shutter speed allllll the way down until it says “bulb.” In Bulb mode, the shutter will stay open for as long as you hold down the shutter button. Real fast, do you have any ideas for what to call my wordsprint post? Or what to call the wordsprint event in general? I’m a bit stumped.

these are so pretty! when i try to take pictures of fireworks, they always turn out blurry. what setting was your camera on to get them so clear, do you know?
my day so far has pretty much been sitting on the porch and listening to the ocean while i played the ukulele, which was actually incredibly nice. there’s going to be a firework show from the pier tonight and i’m excited about that. π

Thanks, Maddy! Yeah, there was a similar situation at the place we went to. Lots of people gave up on trying to get in and just sat in the grocery store parking lot to watch. XD

Oh my goodness those are AMAZING, Clara! They’re so clear and crisp and beautiful! Some of my favorites are the 1st and 2nd, and the 16th and 17th. π
We tried to go see the fireworks set off over a mountain near us, but they weren’t nearly as good as normal and we couldn’t see them very well. π¦ But it was okay because we still had a lot of fun playing with sparklers and writing words with their light trails! My aunt got some pretty neat pictures. π

Thank you so much, Rose! π The trick is to turn your camera to Manual mode and use a really slow shutter speed to capture several fireworks in one image. You’ll also need to raise your aperture to somewhere around 15 and lower your ISO to about 200 to keep the surrounding area nice and dark . π

Your pictures are beautiful π Usually the light isn’t very great, though. How’d you do it? is looking at you, tempting you
Of course, though, you don’t have to say. Photographers, like magicians, have their secrets. π

Thank you, Saanvi! I’m not sure exactly what you mean about the lighting – but to achieve good lighting in my photos, I use Manual mode on a dSLR camera and adjust my settings according to the light. π

Oh, well, what I mean is that when you usually try to take pictures of the fireworks when they’re happening in front of you, usually the lighting isn’t very great. Maybe because of the mode?
LikeLiked by 1 person
Ah, okay, I understand what you mean. π I used a long shutter speed that stayed open long enough to let the light of the fireworks brighten the shot. π
