Random Post #10

What’s up, guys? I can’t believe October is almost over! It’s finally getting cold outside, and I couldn’t be more excited. We went to the mountains last week and I took quite a few photos of fall leaves, pumpkins, and other autumn-y things. Prepare for those in an upcoming post. XD

Let’s get started, shall we?

Random Topic #1: Alternatives to PicMonkey

As most of you have probably noticed, PicMonkey is no longer free to use. *sniff* I’ve mostly recovered from shock by now, but I can assure you I was quite unhappy when I first found out. XD You can go read THIS POSTΒ on the PicMonkey blog where they explain it. You can design and edit on the site all you want, but there is no longer a free way to save your creations. 😦 Because of this, I’ve come up with a list of free alternatives to PicMonkey. Hopefully it will be helpful to some of you!

There are a ton of free photo editing sites out there. While a lot of them can’t really do much but put colorful filters on your photos, I managed to find a couple that can do everything PicMonkey could do – and more!

Out of all of these sites, I think Pixlr and BeFunky are my favorites! They both have a ton of free editing options that are quite nice.

PicMonkey was unique in the sense that you could use your own fonts on their site for free. I did my best to find a few other sites that also offer that feature. πŸ™‚

As you can see, I couldn’t find near as many sites for graphic design. :/ Of course, there’s always Canva, but I tend to shy away from Canva because the free fonts and clipart are so overused. I personally have started using GIMP for all my editing and design, and I really love it! However, if you’d rather go with a something simpler that GIMP, then I would recommend Pixlr as my top choice for a graphic design site. πŸ™‚

Random Topic #2: NaNoWriMo

I’m attempting NaNo for the first time this year! I’ve set a goal of 25K words, and I hope I’ll be able to meet it. Do all you seasoned NaNo-ers have any tips for me? I really have no idea what I’m doing here. XD

I don’t want to give away much about my novel, but I can tell you a few things: it’s set in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania in the year 2004, the two main characters are a 13-year old girl named Lem (short for Clementine) and a 9-year-old boy named Nat (his name may change), and it’s sort of a blend between historical fiction and sci-fi. Here’s a cover that I made:

Yeah, it doesn’t have a title yet. XD I’m super excited to write this novel! I really love writing and I think NaNo is such a neat idea. πŸ˜€

Random Topic #3: Photography Challenge

In my last recent photography post, Allison challenged me to think of three really ugly things and then try and take beautiful pictures of them. I thought it was a super neat idea, so I decided to try it! I wandered around with my camera for a while and managed to find some unappealing photography subjects. πŸ˜›

Here’s a lovely dead beetle, a rusty metal rod, and someΒ decade-old grain on the floor of our unused grain silo. So beautiful. XD

This spider web was stretched across the doorway of the silo. I’m not sure if this photo qualifies as ugly because I think spider webs are beautiful! I seem to have a somewhat unpopular opinion on spiders, though. πŸ˜›

Our rose bush is very brown and leafless right now, so it’s pretty ugly. The thorns on the branches do make for a somewhat interesting subject, though!

I had a lot of fun with that challenge! How do you think I did? If any of you want to try it, then please go right ahead. πŸ˜€

Random Topic #4: Introducing an Awesome Blog That Deserves More Followers

I shall now give aΒ shout out to a blog that I think deserves more attention. πŸ˜€ There are just so many amazing bloggers out there that deserve way more recognition than they get!

The blog I’ll be giving aΒ shout out to today is:

The Young and Dreaming

Please check out this blog, follow, like, and comment! It’s a collab blog that I’m actually a contributor to, and I would really appreciate if y’all followed.Β Also, please leave links in the comments to some blogs that you think deserve a shoutout!

Random Topic #5: Recent Artwork

I actually haven’t done much art lately, other than a few bible verses on Sunday mornings. I recently bought a Wreck This Journal, but I want to save that for another post. πŸ™‚ I have done a few drawings in my sketchbook, so I guess I shall share those. πŸ˜›

I did this sketch of Poseidon on Percy Jackson’s birthday. It’s not my best drawing ever, but it’s okay. I was laying on my bedroom floor while I drew it, and I heard my mom say, “Where is Clara?” Then my brother came in, looked over my shoulder, went back to my mom, and said, “She’s laying on the floor drawing some weird water guy.” XD

I bought some new brush-tip markers at Hobby Lobby, and I drew these little flowers when I was testing them out. I love how vibrant and colorful they are!

Yikes, I probably should have put something underneath this page – you can see the next drawing right through the paper! Anyways, this is a sketch of a character from a book that my sister was reading called If The Magic Fits.Β πŸ™‚

That’s all for my recent art! I really should draw more often, huh? πŸ˜‰

Random Topic #6: Comment-A-Thon?

Do any of you remember the lastΒ Comment-A-Thon? I kind of want to do one again since the last two got a good bit of attention and participants. What do y’all think? Also, I’m not sure I like the name “Comment-A-Thon” that much. Any suggestions for alternative names, or do you think I should stick with the one I have now?

Random Topic #7: Some Amazing Videos

I discovered two really incredible videos on YouTube lately that I wanted to share. πŸ˜€ (Also, you should all check out Studio C because it is hilarious. XD)

Here’s the first video:

Isn’t that just beautiful? I love the animation style so much! ❀

And the second one:

I’ve watched this three times. XD I just can’t get over how amazing it is! Her Instagram account (which you can see here) is really incredible. πŸ˜€

Random Topic #8: Maude Wearing Glasses

So. I was really bored the other day, and I decided to try to teach Maude to wear a pair of glasses. Why I thought of this, I don’t know. XD Anyways, I found an old pair of glasses and made a strap out of a headband to help hold them on her head, and then I headed outside to attempt to get her to wear them. The result was about 100 blurry pictures of Maude trying to remove the glasses from her face. I picked a few of the most hilarious ones to show you guys:

“What do you have there, human? That doesn’t look like a treat…. oh, great. You’ve got your camera.”

“Hey… wait.. what are you doing?”

“Ahh! I CAN’T SEE!”

“Hmm… I do look pretty fabulous in these.”

“Ahh, there we go. Now take your picture and get these things off me, human.”

I rewarded Maude with several treats after managing to get a decent photo. I wonder if I could get one of the bunnies to wear glasses…. hmm. XD

Random Topic #9: An Adorable Puppy

When we went up to visit my grandparents last week, we stopped at a scenic overlook to see the beautiful mountains. AND THERE WERE SOME PEOPLE WITH A PUPPY:

It was a 14-week-old ball of squishiness and fluff.

Her owners kindly allowed me to take a picture of her. She looked right at the camera and smiled. I love when dogs do that!

Just look at that face! *melts* I’m pretty sure she was a Shar-Pei dog. Her face was so wrinkly! XD

I think I need a puppy now. Is anyone willing to donate one? *hopeful smile*

Well, that’s about it for this post! Thank you so much for reading. πŸ˜€ I hope you all have a wonderful day! ❀

Which random topic was your favorite?

  1. WHAT?! Picmonkey isn’t free anymore! What?! That sucks. 😦 Thanks for showing us other options. Picmonkey was pretty slow for me though. I also lave that fox and mouse video! ❀

  2. Your NaNo story sounds really interesting! I would give you advice, but I’ve never done NaNo before, either. Why did you put glasses on your dog? Just why? You shot some pretty funny pictures, though! You’re little brother coming and saying the thing about the water-man reminds me of my little sister. She’s always looking over my shoulder.

  3. Chose a favorite topic?? Haha, no way that’s happening. AAH I’m so excited for all the autumn photos! Ooh, thanks for the pic monkey alternatives. That’s super helpful. Aw your dog looks great in glasses!

  4. I actually edited my pictures, then screenshotted them, then cropped them in wordpress. πŸ˜‰ But my mom has a job where she needs picmonkey, so she bought it for herself and let me use it. πŸ™‚

    1. That’s a good idea! πŸ™‚ I thought about doing that, but I just don’t think it’s worth it for me to lose the image sharpness. πŸ™‚ That’s so awesome that your mom lets you use it! πŸ˜€

  5. OH YEAH, ANOTHER RANDOM POST! Heh heh, I always start these comments with caps, don’t I. XD
    1. IT’S SO SAD. But not too sad for me because I have Royale. πŸ˜€ Heh heh. But thanks for putting together that list, Clara! I’m sure it will be so helpful for lots of people whom PicMonkey has deserted. 😑
    2. Ooh, I wish you success! πŸ˜€ Your story sounds great and the cover is so neat. Also I didn’t know you and Megan had the same middle name! Or else I just forgot.
    3. WOOHOO you actually did it! That was fun to see! My favorite is probably the rose bush – I think spiderwebs are quite neat too. πŸ™‚ Maybe I should do my own challenge… XD
    4. Already followed! πŸ˜€
    5. HA HA that thing about your brother was so funny. XD Ooh, aren’t brush tip markers fun? I think my favorite art is the character art at the end – so cute!
    6. I think the comment-a-thon is what originally inspired me to comment more often, and now I comment on most posts almost automatically (I mean, if I genuinely have something nice to say, of course) because it’s become a habit. πŸ™‚ Hmm. Sorry, I’m awful with coming up with names for that kind of thing. 😦 XD
    7. Those videos are both lovely! The first one is so cute and the second is so neat. But I don’t understand how she could have a famous art exhibit just by using Google’s photos?? XD I guess she does have to find them all, which would be a lot of work. Anyway, that’s so neat!
    8. Ohhhh Maude, you’re so cute… and hilarious! XD My favorite picture is this one: https://clarascraftcorner.files.wordpress.com/2017/10/e53bd-maude4.jpg Her eyes! β™₯
    9. Awwww that smile! SO SQUSHY! XD
    10. Oh wait. There is no ten. Pardon me.
I loved this post (shocking)! It kept me entertained for quite a while. XD

Yes, it is quite sad. sniff And you’re welcome! I hope it will be helpful to some people. πŸ™‚
Thank you!! πŸ˜€ Oh, yeah, isn’t that so cool? I freaked out when I realized that. XD
YEP! Yay! I agree! Spiderwebs are so neat. Ooh yes, I would love if you did it! πŸ˜€
Haha, yep. XD Thank you! πŸ™‚
Aw, that’s so awesome! And haha, it’s fine. πŸ˜›
Yes, I agree! Well, yeah, she had to find them all and get the right angle and stuff to make them look so pretty, so it was still kinda her own work of art even it was Google’s footage, I guess. πŸ˜›
I knooow! Maude really is so adorable. XD Today it was cold and I got out her favorite blanket for her, and she spent a long time arranging it just right by pushing it around with her nose, then spent the whole day curled up on it. ❀ SO. CUTE. XD Also, thank you! πŸ˜€
Aww, yay! I’m so glad you loved my post. πŸ™‚ Thank you again, Allison!

      -Clara ❀

      1. I will reply to a large portion of that comment with ” Yeah. πŸ˜€ ” XD πŸ˜›
Okay, that makes sense. Anyway, here pictures were super neat!
AWW THAT IS SO CUTE! β™₯
Of course, dear! I sure did. πŸ™‚

  7. First of all – I almost “liked” this post right at the beginning when you said it was getting colder there – and I hadn’t even read the entire post yet! I’m just desperate for cold weather. Go away you nasty 90 degrees forecast. XD
Also, that story about you drawing Poseidon made me laugh. Totally sounds like something that would happen at my house. XD
AND MAUDE IN GLASSES OH MY WORD SHE LOOKS SO PRECIOUS!! reaches through the screen and hugs her
I think you should do a comment-a-thon again! I’d definitely try to participate. I’ve gotten so bad at commenting lately, so it would be good for me to take on a challenge like that XD
AND OOOH NANOO!!! 5 MORE DAYS AND IM FREAKING OUT!! I’m going for 50,000 words and I have 2 jobs now and I just basically don’t know how I’m gonna exist that month. O_O GOOD LUCK MY FRIEND! πŸ˜€

  8. Fun post!! Ooh, thanks for the alternatives! Yes, Picmonkey not being free anymore is quite sad. I found out after creating a BIBPC poster and being unable to save it! So I got the free trial, saved the picture, and then ended my subscription πŸ™‚ .
Nano! I’m trying it this year! Who knows if I’ll get even close to the goal… XD . Do you want to be buddies? I’m not really sure how it works, but do you? And I like your cover!
That fox video is really sweet. It’s neat how well they could express the animal’s emotion and thoughts! And how lonely when the little mouse began to leave the fox 😦 πŸ™‚

    1. Thank you, Gracie! 😊 Yes, bad PicMonkey. Grr. Haha, I’m glad that worked for you!
Ooh, yay! Is this your first time doing NaNo? I’d love to be buddies, though I also have no how it works. XD Thanks!!
I knoow! It was so well-done and adorable. πŸ™‚

      -Clara ❀

      1. You’re welcome! Yes, this is my first time! I’ve done the camp, but not the real thing. I’m guessing that if we look each other up we can “buddy” each other. That’s my guess XD . Oh! I think I actually found you (Clara Elise). I guess I’ll try to send a buddy request and we’ll see if it works…

        1. I actually just added you as my buddy… but you might want to make sure I have the right person… XD It said Clara’s Craft Corner as your site so I don’t know if its an old account. My username is “Gracie (Smile and Craft AG)” πŸ˜‰
