Welcome back, everyone! *waves happily* Today, I bring you another DIY post – we’ll be making a mini birthday party in a box! I had so much fun creating this package. π It’s a great way to celebrate someone’s birthday if you’re not able to be there in person, but it would also make an awesome gift for any occasion or holiday!
I created this box as a gift forΒ AllisonΒ – today is actually her birthday! πππΒ HAPPY BIRTHDAY, my friend! It’s been so much fun getting to know you over blogs and letters. You are an incredible artist and photographer, and your posts are always so bright and happy and fun to read! You’re a really sweet and funny person, and I can’t wait to meet you someday hopefully very soon! π
Don’t forget to check out Allison’s blogΒ and wish her a happy birthday – I’m sure she’d appreciate it! β€ (Allison, if you haven’t opened your gift yet, then don’t read this post. XD)
Are you ready to make a birthday party in a box? Let’s go! *throws confetti*
Here’s what you’ll need to decorate the box itself. I spent quite a while making mine very colorful, but you could always use a plain box and just decorate the inside – that would make it even more of a surprise!
The first thing I did was cover the lid with scrapbook paper. I found that turning the box upside down made this much easier.
To keep the scrapbook paper smooth and to more easily attach it to the box, I mixed some white school glue with warm water and used a paintbrush to apply it to the box before laying down the paper.
If you’re using a pretty large box like I am, your scrapbook paper won’t go all the way to the edges of your lid. Just add additional strips of scrapbook paper where needed – we’ll cover the seams in the next step.
Use washi tape to cover the seams in the paper. The lid is finished, so let’s move on to the rest of the box!
I used contrasting scrapbook paper to cover the sides of the box. As before, it didn’t go all the way to the edges of the box. I just added additional paper where needed and then covered the seams with washi tape. π
I added another strip of washi tape along the back of the lid where there was a seam in the paper. However, I found that the tape didn’t stay put when the box was open, so I removed the tape, added some of the school glue mixture underneath, and re-added it to keep it more firmly in place.
The outside of your box is finished! Isn’t that pretty? Now let’s decorate the inside!
If the inside of your box has any loose flaps (mine had one along the back of the inside of the lid), then you’ll want to secure those down with some packaging tape or glue before continuing.
To start decorating the inside, I glued two pieces of scrapbook paper together and used them to cover the middle of the inside of the box.
Then I glued more paper to the sides and back of the box and used washi tape to cover all the seams and edges. π
Now that your box is decorated inside and out, let’s fill it with party supplies!
Here are the things I put inside of my box. You could really include anything inside of your box – the possibilities are endless!
The first thing I added inside the box was a layer of confetti. An easy way to make confetti is to run some colorful paper through a paper shredder. Just make sure you have an adult’s help – paper shredders are very sharp!
Now add some birthday gifts on top of the confetti! You could use several small gifts or a few big ones.
Then add another layer of confetti…
Finally, add a birthday card, some colorful balloons, party blowers, and a party hat! I love how colorful this is. π
Now let’s add a name to the box! I’m mailing mine, so I’ll be adding an address as well.
To start, I printed out “A-L-L-I-S-O-N” on the back of a piece of scrapbook paper, making sure to flip all the letters backward so they’d be turned the right way when I cut them out.
Then I carefully cut out the letters and arranged them on the lid in a slight curve, gluing them into place as I went.
I added some sparkly string to make a banner, making sure to glue it firmly into place so it would stay put during shipping.
Then I added the address in some fun handwriting with a Sharpie, and I was done!
Imagine how fun it would be to get this on your birthday! πΒ You could make this DIY for Easter, Christmas, or any other holiday. You could even make a miniature one with a smaller box or an enormous one with a bigger box – the possibilities are endless!
Thanks for reading, everyone! Don’t forget to wish Allison a happy birthday in the comments below! β€

This is such a great idea, Clara, and I really like how you decorated everything. I wonder what was in those presents…. π
I’m not sure that I have a favorite gift I’ve ever received, but last year I received a new (to me) Madame Alexander doll, an amazing paper cutter (shared), and a Nikon D3400. What about you, Clara?
And one more thing–your photos look so professional–they have the perfect lighting! π

Thank you so much! π Haha! I think Allison posted about what was in them. π
Those sound like such great gifts, especially the Nikon D3400! Hmm, the best gift I’ve ever received was probably my dog – it was so exciting even though I knew I was getting her. π
Thanks so much, I’m glad you think so! And thanks for commenting! π
