What’s up, everyone? I hope you’re all having a great day!
I don’t know about you guys, but I am so excited for summer. It hasn’t officially arrived yet, but it’s 90 degrees where I live, so I think it’s safe to say that summer has begun. 😉 There are quite a few things that I’m hoping to accomplish over the next few months, and I decided to write them all out and make a post about them. I hope you enjoy reading my summer goals, and don’t forget to tell me what your goals are in the comments below! 🙂
Reach day 190 of a Fiddle Tune a Day:
In an attempt to expand the number of fiddle songs that I know and just to generally improve my fiddle playing, I started learning and playing a daily fiddle song back in March. I’ve been following Vi Wickam’s “Fiddle Tune a Day” series on YouTube, and it’s been so helpful! Each day, I learn the song he plays on that day’s video, record myself playing it, and then upload the audio file to a Google Drive folder where I keep track of all the songs. I should be able to reach day 190 by the end of the summer. I can’t wait to reach day 365 next year – this has already improved my playing so much, and it’s been tons of fun!
Learn something new on the piano:
I stopped taking piano lessons a while ago, and as a result, I am extremely out of practice. I may have a possible new teacher sometime soon, but until that happens, I want to try to teach myself some new songs and try to play more often so I don’t get any more rusty than I already am. 😛
Play music with other musicians:
I love making music with other musicians, but I rarely get a chance to do so. I was going to get to play with a group of bluegrass musicians back in the spring, but it ended up not working out. I’d really love to find some people to play music with this summer, especially people who are around my age. I might not end up accomplishing this goal, but I’m definitely going to try!
Find some new music to listen to:
Last year I discovered Sleepy Man, the Coco soundtrack (incredible movie, by the way!), and CCR. This summer, I’d love to find some new music artists to listen to, especially while I impatiently wait for NEEDTOBREATHE to hurry up and release their new album. XD Suggestions in the comments would be very appreciated!
Learn to play the ukulele:
My little sister was given a ukulele at Christmas and has graciously allowed me to borrow it. I’ve learned how to tune it, I know a few basic chords, and I can play a couple of songs. I’d love to know several more songs and get better at strumming patterns by the end of the summer!
Enter some more photography contests:
I entered the HSLDA photography contest a few years back, and I recently got some of my photography published in a local college magazine, but other than that, I haven’t really entered any photography contests. I’ve found a few new ones to enter, and I’m going to keep looking for more. If you guys know of any good ones, please let me know!
Try to launch a photography business:
*hyperventilates* I’m really nervous about this, but at the same time, I really want to do it. XD I created a simple online photography portfolio a few days ago, and I’m going to be reaching out to some various different places to see if they’d be willing to host a pet photography event. Beyond that, I’m not sure what I want to do, but I’m sure I’ll figure it out. Wish me luck, guys!
Save money for a new camera:
I was originally planning to save for a zoom lens over the summer, but then I discovered the Nikon D7100 last week and changed my mind. XD As I’ve learned more about photography, I’ve found myself wishing that my camera had live view/better autofocus/better low light performance/etc. The D7100 has all of that and more, and especially now that I’m trying to turn my photography into a business, I’ve become determined to save enough to buy it. I probably won’t have enough money by the end of the summer, but I’m definitely going to try!
Continue shelter photography:
I’ve really enjoyed being a photographer for my local animal shelter over the past year, and I hope to continue taking pictures for them throughout the summer and long after that! It’s a really neat opportunity and it’s helped me to learn a lot about animals and photography. 😀
Plan more giveaways:
The giveaway with Creativeqube Design has been super fun, and I’d love to host some more giveaways this fall! I’m going to be reaching out to various companies to see if I can find someone willing to sponsor another giveaway for all of you awesome people. 😀
Post more DIYs:
I would love to do some more DIY posts this summer! I have lots of ideas, I just need to actually make them. XD Would any of you be interested in seeing a summer-themed version of my birthday party in a box?
Do at least 3 posts every month:
Up until a little while ago, my posting schedule was… well, nonexistent. XD I would just post whenever I felt like it, which meant my posts were oddly spaced out and sporadic. In an attempt to be more organized, I’ve been trying to aim for 3 posts a month – so far, so good! We’ll see if I can keep it up for the rest of the summer. 😉
Stick to a schedule:
As I mentioned a moment ago, I’ve been trying to be a bit more organized with my blog. I created a virtual blog planner and planned out all of my posts until August, and I’ve been writing up my posts ahead of time and scheduling them to avoid writing them at the last minute. I’m hoping to continue doing this – it really helps!
Create more free clipart:
I would love to make some more free clipart for you guys, but I’m not sure what to create! Do you have any suggestions of things you’d like me to make? Leave them in the comments below!
Work on my novel:
I’m currently working on writing a novel, and I hope to continue figuring it out and writing it over the summer! It’s a bit of the mess at a moment, but I really like the idea, so I’m going to stick with it and attempt to turn it into something that actually resembles a novel. XD It’s a story set in the middle of summer, so the next few months will be the perfect time to work on it. 🙂
Write another short story:
I love writing short stories, especially creative nonfiction, but I haven’t written one in almost a year! I’m hoping that I’ll find some inspiration for one sometime this summer. 🙂
Win Camp NaNo in July:
Camp NaNo in April was SO much fun, and I can’t wait for July’s Camp! I’ll most likely be using it to work on my novel, and I’m hoping to set my goal around 20K – 25K words.
Prepare for NaNoWriMo in November:
I failed NaNoWriMo last year, and I’m hoping to do somewhat better this year. I came up with a new novel idea that I set aside for NaNo. I’m quite excited about it, and I’m hoping to organize the story a bit and figure out some of the most important details so I can focus on actually writing when November comes!
Read at least 15 books on my Goodreads TBR:
I set a goal on Goodreads to read 100 books in 2018. I’ve read over 40 books so far, and I have tons more waiting to be read, so it shouldn’t be hard to reach this goal as long as I focus on trying new books instead of re-reading Harry Potter. XD
Buy some new books:
A few of the many books that I’d love to own are Counting by 7s, Echo, Challenger Deep, The Last Dragon, and The Graveyard Book. I’m hoping to visit a used bookstore sometime soon so I can add them to my bookshelf!
Try to meet or correspond with an author:
I would absolutely LOVE to meet or at least email/write to an author that I admire. In August, there’s a big book festival in my state that a lot of authors come to, and I’m hoping that we’ll be able to go and meet some of them!
Read my Bible more often:
This is a pretty simple goal – I don’t read my Bible as much as I’d like to, and I’m hoping to change that! I’m trying to read a chapter or so every morning right after I get out of bed.
Go to the beach:
I absolutely love the beach, but I haven’t been in several years. I’m really hoping that we’ll be able to visit the beach this summer – I’d love to get some pictures of the ocean and add to my seashell collection!
Visit some new places:
I love to visit places that I’ve never been before. They don’t have to be anything too incredible or exotic, I just like going somewhere new and interesting. I’d love to visit some of the restaurants and stores nearby that I’ve never been to before or even discover a new place in the woods at my home. 😀
Learn to drive:
This is probably one of my biggest goals for the summer! I’m hoping to be able to drive by August. Wish me luck, guys.
Create and trade more ATCs:
I love making ATCs, but I don’t really do it that often! I’d love to make some more and trade them with my friends and siblings.
Continue drawing in my sketchbook every Sunday:
I draw a verse or song lyric that I enjoyed every Sunday in church, and I’m going to continue doing it throughout the summer. 🙂 It’s a nice way to remember what the sermon was about each week while doing something creative!
Make progress on my Wreck This Journal:
My Wreck This Journal is so much fun and I would love to do as many pages as possible this summer! I’d especially like to work on some of the more destructive and messy ones!
Practice my hand lettering:
I recently bought some new brush pens, and I’ve absolutely loved using them for hand lettering! I hope to keep practicing with them over the next few months as I attempt to improve my art. 🙂
Make “A”s in my college classes:
Unfortunately, I’m not getting a break from school this summer – in fact, I’ll be taking 2 college classes. Yay. 😀 I would like to try to make good grades in both of them despite the unfortunate timing!
Be more organized:
For the past couple of months, I’ve been making daily checklists in Google Keep to hold myself accountable. It’s really helped my unorganized, spontaneous self to get things done, and I hope to continue doing so throughout the summer and beyond!
Celebrate the 4th of July:
I can’t WAIT for Independence Day – it’s one of my favorite holidays! I’m hoping to watch the same fireworks show we watched last year and possibly get some good photos. 🙂
Teach Maude some new tricks:
I’ve been working on some new tricks with my dog, Maude. She’s almost 7 years old, but she’s just as smart and eager to learn as she was when she was younger! One trick that I’ve almost accomplished is “touch” (touch an object with her nose), and I’m hoping to buy a desk bell and teach her to ring it using that command. 😛
Keep my plants alive:
I recently bought three little succulents (more on them in a future post), and they’ve been living on my desk as I attempt to keep them from dying. So far they seem to be okay, but we’ll see how long they last. XD
I hope that was somewhat interesting to read! I’m looking forward to seeing how much I’ll be able to accomplish this summer. 🙂
Thanks for reading, and have a lovely day! ❤
