Recent Photography: Fishing, Fireworks, Fluffy Things & More

Good morning, friends! Before I start this post, I’d like to mention that Week 2 of The Summer Bored Games has begun! Click here to see all of the awesome challenges on Megan’s blog. 😀

It’s been a while since I’ve posted any photography, hasn’t it? O_o I’m so glad to have finally finished a recent photography post! I’ll warn you ahead of time – this is is going to be a rather random assortment of photos. XD Also, I got the idea of separating my photos into categories from Allison’s “etcetera” post, which you should definitely check out. 🙂

Let’s get started! *rubs hands together*

This is Spike, a sweet and slightly grumpy dog who belongs to the people who own the pool that we swim in during the summer. 🙂

This smiley pup is Birdie, a four-month-old Lab puppy who belongs to some friends of ours. 🙂 She’s so energetic and adorable!

This is Sweet Tea, the pony I took photos of in my last recent photography post. 🙂

He wasn’t in much of a mood for being photographed. XD

Here’s me and Maude. 🙂 I wanted a photo of us together for my About page, so my sister Laura agreed to take one for me. With her confusion on how to use a dSLR and Maude’s unpredictable energy combined, it took many failed attempts before we finally got an acceptable photo. XD

Here’s one of the failures in which I was attempting to get Maude to look at the camera. XD

And here’s one more in black and white. 🙂

These next pictures are definitely something a little different – I took photos at a rodeo! It was a long and sweaty experience, but I’m pretty proud of the photos that I managed to capture. 🙂 Seeing all of the huge, powerful horses was so neat – they’ve always been one of my favorite animals.

What did you think of those photos? Which dog is cuter – Spike or Birdie? Have you ever been to a rodeo?

There’s been lots of fishing going on lately, so I’ve taken quite a few photos around the pond. 🙂 Here’s Ezra looking for minnows.

My brother Abram is slightly fishing-obsessed at the moment. He’s learned an impressive amount about fishing over the past year!

Abram caught this tiny fish that somehow managed to bite onto his enormous lure. XD

I’m really proud of this photo!! I think it sort of captures the excitement of finally catching a fish. 🙂

Laura and I returned to the pond a few weeks later to see if we could spot and photograph the small alligator that’s been living there. O_o We didn’t see him, but we did have fun taking photos of each other and other various subjects. 🙂

This picture makes me hungry! Wild blackberries are so sweet and delicious. ❤

Nice pose, Laura. *applauds*

After many failed attempts, I managed to sneak up on a dragonfly and get some photos.

There was some amazing far-away lightning the other night, and while I wasn’t very successful at capturing it, I did get a few nice photos of the stars. 🙂

You can see the clouds lighting up from the lightning! It was so amazing.

Next are a few pictures from a nature trail near our house. 🙂

Do you enjoy fishing? Have you ever had wild blackberries? Are alligators creepy or cool? Which photo from this category was your favorite?

This category is a little bit oddly named, but I couldn’t think of a better way to describe these photos. 😛 Anyways, here’s some pictures of my siblings and friends swimming.

Behold, the incredible donut float. *everyone gasps in awe*

This photo makes me laugh. XD Swimming so much fun, and I’m really thankful that we have a place to cool off during the summer!

YAY FIREWORKS! I had a nice Independence Day this year. 🙂 We stayed home and watched the fireworks show that our neighbor does pretty much every year, and then we played with Pop-Its and confetti and finished the night with a hayfield truck ride. 😀

What did you do for Independence Day? How often do you go swimming? Is watermelon amazing?? (That one isn’t even a question.)

A few months ago, we stopped at a gas station during a trip, and there was an ice cream truck parked beside us! I’ve never actually seen one before, so that was pretty neat. 🙂

Which random photo was the best? Have you ever seen an ice cream truck? Socks or bare feet?

That concludes today’s post! I hope you enjoyed looking through my pictures and that all the questions weren’t overwhelming. XD I love having conversations in the comments, so feel free to answer as many of those as you’d like down below! 🙂

  1. Those rodeo pictures are so cool! I bet it was really hard to take pictures there, with the dark lighting and all the motion.
My favorite picture would have to be the one of the jagged lightening. It’s so cool!

  2. lights up ANOTHER RANDOM PHOTOGRAPHY POST BY CLARA YAYAYAYAYAY! 😀 😀 😀 Ooh, I do like how you organized it into sections. 🙂 Ahem. Hang on to your hat (if you happen to be wearing one).

A N I M A L S: Aww, I think Birdie is the cutest – she looks so happy and sweet! // I love the first photo of Tea Cake’s eyes! (Wait, I just thought of something… do you know if Tea Cake is named after the man of the same name in the book Their Eyes were Watching God?) // Oh my goodness, Clara, I LOVE the first picture of you and Maude! It’s absolutely adorable. ❤ Now I shall have to 1) look at your About page again, and 2) update mine because it’s really outdated. :[] // Wow, Clara, the rodeo pictures are so neat! It’s great how you captured the power and motion of the horses. This was one of my favorites of the rodeo pictures: And nope, I haven’t been to a rodeo. shakes head

N A T U R E: I LOVED THIS CATEGORY! 😀 Oh my word, the first two pictures (especially the second) of Ezra catching minnows are SO precious and adorable! ❤ Doesn’t he remind you of like Christopher Robin in the Winnie-the-Pooh books there? The photos of Abram are amazing too! I quite like the photo you’re proud of (the one of Abram catching a fish) too! That’s great. I think he should come up here and fish with Jeff – Jeff always asks if anyone wants to fish with him on Sunday afternoons, and usually we would prefer to rest. 😛 I like fishing, but on Sunday afternoons I’m usually too tired, heh heh. // I also love the pictures of Laura! Her outfit + the green background just looks so summery and cute. 😀 Also YUM, blackberries. ❤ Do you guys make blackberry jam or anything or just eat them? // Oh yesss, I’ve seen lightning like that too and it IS super neat! Lightning is strange. I love the last lightning picture! // I think alligators are mostly creepy, with a small dose of neatness that you actually have one in your pond. The neatness is outweighed by the unhelpfulness, though. XD

S U M M E R: That pool looks so fun. 😀 And so does the doughnut float! We used to have a float about that big, but it didn’t looks as nice. 😉 Also HA HA, that last pool picture IS quite funny. XD We’ve only gone swimming about twice this summer, because the pond is sometimes too covered in duckweed. -_- Hopefully we can swim again soon! // Your Independence Day sounds great! Sadly we did absolutely nothing for July 4th. :[] Dad was combining at our old farm, so we weren’t all together to do anything. Oh well. AND YES, WATERMELON IS AMAZING. Do you prefer seeded or seedless?

R A N DO M: Your random photography was so neat! I think my favorite was the cute little seedling. 🙂 It’s so bright and cheerful! And ooh, the ice cream truck is pretty neat too. I don’t think I’ve seen an “official” ice cream truck, although it sounds vaguely familiar like I have… And I prefer bare feet if it’s warm enough. 😀 Jeff adamantly disagrees, though. XD

Well that was fun! I love getting glimpses into your life through your photography, Clara! AHHH IT’S JUST ALL SO PRETTY.

  3. So pretty! The last time I tried to get my sister to take pictures of me she took like 80 and I got 6 good photos. Your little brother is obsessed with fishing, too? Wow, he should hang out with my little brother-same problem-er, hobby. XD

  4. WHOOP WHOOP CLARA, I’M GOING TO TRY FOR A 600-WORD COMMENT. You have been duly warned. (Also your posts are REALLY good for long comments, what can I say? Allison seems to prove that well, but this time I’m going to beat even HER. SO.)

Ooh, nice animal pictures! I like the lighting for Spike. AND BIRDIE IS QUITE CUTE INDEED. And ha ha, poor Sweet Tea. That’s a great name, by the way. 😉 AND OH MY WORD I LOVE THAT PHOTO OF YOU AND MAUDE! Ha ha, I know how that picture-taking goes. I used to get my brother Junior to take my pictures, but that always failed. XD Then I got a remote. Turns out that remote focuses better than even I sometimes.

OH MY GOODNESS THOSE RODEO PICTURES ARE SOO GOOD! Did you use flash at all? What were your settings? switches on geek photographer mode I like horses too. 🙂 My aunt has a horse, but she lives up in Canada. She’s planning to move down here soon, though, and probably bring him with her! Ooh, I haven’t been to a rodeo…they do have them nearby, but I’ve never really been all that interested. Maybe I should, though and work on my action photography! I’m so impressed with yours. 🙂

I ALSO OH MY GOODNESS LOVE THOSE NATURE PICTURES! Clara, they’re SO PRETTY! Ha ha, that’s so funny about Abram. When my family went up to Allison’s, Jeff taught Junior how to fish, and Junior was obsessed with it too. In fact, all day Saturday they just fished and fished…and fished. XD and I LOVE that photo of Abram catching the fish. AGGH CLARA SERIOUSLY. THE DETAILS. THE GOLDEN LIGHT. IT’S SO GOOD. Ooh, and those are good pictures of Laura too! OOH, AND THE CLOUDS. SO. GOOD. Okay, the questions: 1) Sadly I’ve never fish but I would like to. 2) Yep, I have had wild blackberries (but oddly enough not on the farm, but when we lived in a neighborhood years ago!) 3) Alligators…are mildly creepy.

WHOOP WHOOP SWIMMING! Man, I just love swimming…sadly I haven’t since I was ELEVEN YEARS OLD. (That was a very long time ago, in case you were wondering. XD) Ooh, nice donut float! gasps in awe

OOH, NICE FIREWORK PICTURES! Sadly we didn’t see ANY, except for on TV. But we sure heard a lot. AND OOH, WATERMELON. For Independence Day we had burgers and watched (part of) A Capitol Fourth. Whoop. Yeah, that was a bit understated. Most years the whole farm (my cousins and grandparents) gets together and has a cookout but we just didn’t this year. I’m not sure why, but oh well. And YES, WATERMELON. OOOHHH SWEET WATERMELON. Here on the farm we have Watermelon Club, which consists of my cousin Christian, our farmhand Richard, my Granddaddy and I. We meet in Granddaddy’s garage at five o’clock every night and eat lots and lots of watermelon (with salt). It’s definitely one of the highlights of summer. This year I think I’m going to teach them how to play Psychiatrist. Allison and her siblings taught Junior and me, so if I can round up some more people for Watermelon Club, I think we should play. Question: Do you like your watermelon with salt?

Ooh, nice random pictures! (I still don’t understand why anyone would want to go to a market that sells fleas, just saying…) XD Ooh, that ice cream truck reminds me of when my family lived in a neighborhood in town – there was one that came by every once in a while in the summer. I liked the little sprout picture the best out of those. I just love little growing things! ☺ And I shall go check out those blogs now.

Lovely post, Clara! AND WHOOP WHOOP I BEAT ALLISON WITH 643 WORDS. makes a check on SBG tasklist for the week

  5. These photos are amazing, Clara!!!! You make the ordinary extraordinary, a key to making photos really interesting! I wish my photos looked this beautiful! They were all so amazing I couldn’t pick a favorite, but I really liked the dog ones! Thanks so much for linking to my Pisa post!!! 🙂

  6. Your photography is amazing! I love all the rodeo photos; I’ve never been to one and it would be neat to see everything up close. Also, labs are honestly some of the best dogs ever. ^.^

  7. Ok, Clara, please don’t kill me, but I picked your post for the 600 comment! I’m sorry! I beg pardon, henceforth after this I shall be sordino! That means mute, by the way. He he he…
I love dogs! It’s funny cause before I was downright PETRIFIED of them. My cousin Jon (if you’re reading this, which I doubt you are, hi Jon!) let his dogs loose, and I, being the dunce of an eight year old, ran for my life. Naturally his black lab ran after me. I escaped with my life. Since then, dogs have been good friends of mine. Well, my cousins’ dogs. I don’t have one. Yet.

Rodeos are yet again one of those events I’d LOVE to go see! I’ve watched them on TV, but it’s not the same. sobs uncontrollably while devouring all of the family’s secret hoard of chocolate
Our independence was quietly celebrated, we are Canadian after all. But we celebrate both holidays just cause. There was a big watermelon, fireworks, and of course, our lovely cabin. 😉 I took some pictures, but they weren’t as good. It was fun to see the rockets explode though. And working on– the secret story. acts mysterious Oh and bare feet all the way. I’m with Megan on that. 😛

You like fishing? I fished once, and then a little since then. I was 7 and I caught a pretty decent fish! I wanted to cook it, but we had to let it go. I thought it was pretty fun, though, especially seeing my friend get into poison ivy. Wait, that’s kinda mean. Don’t worry, he lived to tell the tale. I also learned that worms work much better than lures. They’re more… wrigglier? XD You captured the joy your little has reeling those fish in so well. I wish I could do that. One day, for sure. I loved the photoshoot you and Laura had! That’s so sweet. And wild blackberries? YUM. Nuff said.

The lightning pictures. Those were so stunningly beautiful. It really reminds me of that song, uh, Indescribable by Chris Tomlin? “Who has told every lightning bolt where it should go?” We had a storm the day I went out and get soaked, and the lightning was just- it took my breath away. Our God is an awesome one, and His creation is astounding!

Now I’d like to go swimming really badly! I love it, and it’s so annoyingly hot here. But renovation’s taking up all our time. Which isn’t so bad. There’s air conditioning, and that cold shower for 3 points. he he he he he he. he he he. Anyway, there was one point I almost drowned- I was five, and we went camping. At first I had fun, and was blowing bubbles like Captain Hook in Peter Pan, but when I realized I was really drowning I started screaming for help. I was screaming underwater. facepalm Thankfully my dad got me out, and I know some about swimming. Like a little. That donut float! sighs dreamily you sure you’re not putting it up for adoption? I’d take the best care of it! He he he, my float is one for babies. throws out baby float in disgust

Do you like long hikes? I sure do! I love walking through the trail near out house- only when my family goes together, I’m always the last, because I’m too busy taking pictures! It’s definitely worth it though. crosses arms defiantly
By the way, about the Harry Potter ban, I think I just might make that one fly! Hee hee, although the person I asked to sign said o giver her some time to think about it. Who knows, maybe Harry Potter WILL be banned- yay!

    Wheew! I did it!

  8. Oh my GOSH Clara your photos are so pretty I can’t even. 😍
My sis Ivy and I weren’t home for the fourth, we were at a camp our church does every summer. Its at a collage in South Carolina, and churches from all over come for a very busy week. We didn’t do anything special, and Ivy and I went to bed as soon as we could since we were so tired. 😂
    Most crazily, ~Olive

  9. I love Spike. He has that whole broody thing down pat, I love it. And like Clara??? Your photographs are A+++ someone could tell me they’re premium photos and I would have zero doubt about it 💕 I especially love the summer category because I just love bright colors and lots of blue and yellow 😄 But those lightning shots are awesome too!
