Recent Photography: Books, Beaches & Bunnies

Hooray, it’s time for a recent photography post! πŸ˜€ I know that I did one less than two months ago, but I’ve been taking so many photos that I’ve got to post some or I’ll never catch up! To avoid writing enormously long posts, I’ve been trying to narrow down my photos to my absolute favorites. Once you’ve finished reading, I’d love if you’d tell me in the comments below what you thought of the post length! I’m looking forward to hearing your opinions. πŸ™‚

Enjoy the pictures!

{the beach}

We took a short trip to Florida earlier this week, and it was SO much fun to visit the beach! The ocean is so beautiful. ❀

Here’s a picture of me looking stoically out at the ocean while thinking deep thoughts. Since this was a rather impromptu beach trip, we didn’t bring swimsuits or sunscreen, so what you can’t see in this photo is my rolled-up jeans and the amazing sunburn on the back of my neck. Ah, good times. XD

There were some pretty enormous waves because of Hurricane Florence. I pray that all of you in the path of the hurricane are staying safe! ❀

I love the beach so much! The painful sunburns and sandy, wet jeans were definitely worth it. πŸ˜›Β I can’t wait to go back sometime very soon! Do you enjoy visiting the beach, and if so, what’s your favorite thing to do there?

{book festival}

We went to the Decatur Book Festival at the beginning of the month, and it was definitely one of the highlights of 2018 for me!! It was so much fun to be surrounded by books and book lovers and even MORE fun to meet one of my favorite authors, Jeanne Birdsall. πŸ˜€

There were several different people playing music inside of the festival, which was super neat!

Isn’t this sign so cool? My Hogwarts letter hasn’t come yet, but I haven’t given up hope. *stares wistfully out the window*

Along with Jeanne Birdsall, I also met/saw Laurel Snyder (Orphan Island), Adam Gidwitz (The Inquisitor’s Tale), and Annie Barrows (Ivy and Bean). It was such a wonderful day that I won’t be forgetting any time soon. πŸ˜€

Have you ever been to a book festival or met an author that you admire? If not, who is an author that you would love to meet?

{fort clinch}

Along with visiting the beach in Florida, we also went to Fort Clinch State Park on Amelia Island.Β The fort itself was used during the Civil War, and it was AMAZING to see. The whole thing was open to visitors, so we got to explore the whole inside and outside of the fort. It seriously felt like stepping back in time – it was such a neat experience!

The view from the top of the fort was so beautiful! ❀

What’s your favorite historical monument to visit? Have you ever been to Fort Clinch? Which of these photos was your favorite?

{furry things}

Now for some adorable animals! πŸ˜€ This cute pup looks like she’s smiling for the camera.

Maude turned seven last month, and we had a lot of fun celebrating. She wasn’t too pleased about wearing a party hat, but she did love the dog-friendly cake that I baked for her and the bones and tennis balls we gave her as gifts. XD

Ember’s birthday was at the beginning of September – I can’t believe it’s already been two years since we found her at the dump! She’s such a friendly and playful cat. πŸ™‚

Her face in this photo is hilarious. XD I think she was trying to reach her favorite toy pom-pom from where it rolled under a board.

The pom-pom was successfully rescued!

Runty is an extremely adorable cat with a very unfortunate name. My sister and I weren’t exactly great with names at ages six and seven. πŸ˜›

AND NOW FOR THE BUNNIES. *dramatic music* I put these glasses on Button and he just sat there and let me photograph him. I think this is my new favorite bunny photo. XD

Bunny in a box.

Bunny in a hat.

I love having bunnies – they’re so chubby and adorable! Do you have any pets, and if so, what are their names? Which animal photo was your favorite?

There have been so many spiders spinning webs around our house recently! I would say that I walk into an average of 4-5 webs per day. Our yard is not for the faint of heart. πŸ˜›

Abram found this poor butterfly and offered to hold it for a photo.

Here’s my mom at a movie theater in Florida. The remaining photos were all taken in or around that same theater. πŸ™‚

*sad sigh* This photo reminds me… my succulent Newt died. 😦 *sniff* I don’t know what I did wrong, but I’m pretty sad that I somehow killed him. Poor little guy. At least I still have Edison and Florence! Edison has grown so big that I had to transplant him into a bigger pot, so hopefully he’ll survive. πŸ™‚

Have you ever killed a plant? If you haven’t, do you have any tips for me?Β Which random photo was your favorite/least favorite?

Yay, you made it to the end! Thanks for taking the time to look at my pictures – I hope you enjoyed them. πŸ˜€ I’d love to hear your answers to all of the questions that I asked in the comments below!

Was this post too short, too long, or just right? Which of these photos was your favorite?

  1. Wow your photography is amazing!! I love the beach so much and I always go swimming (even if the water is super cold πŸ™‚ ) The book festival and the Civil War fort look like so much fun (and really cool). Also all of those animals are so so cute πŸ™‚

  2. I love those beach pictures — so pretty! Also, I love the shirt you’re wearing in the beach photo. That bunny picture is so adorable! melts I think one of my succulents might dying, but I have no idea why. Actually I’m not sure if it’s dying, it just hasn’t grown at all since I bought it back in may, which is strange because the lady I bought it from thought I would have to transplant it sometime soon. I looked up some articles and it didn’t seem like the
pot was too small, currently. Maybe the plant is shrinking or something. XD Maybe I’ll try transferring it to a bigger pot, but then again I don’t want to shock it or something and kill it……. Anyway, this is getting too long sorry. XD

  3. Great post, Clara! Your photography style is so vibrant and snazzy! πŸ™‚

I LOVE the grey shirt you are wearing as you stoically gaze upon the ocean. XD If you don’t mind me asking, where did you find it? The ruffled sleeves are very chic. πŸ™‚

I can totally relate to the whole spider thing. Every September, Banana spiders abound at our house! The rafters of our chicken coop seems to be the popular spot for making webs this year… πŸ˜›

Button is the cutest name for a bunny! My sister and I hoped to adopt a little fluffy bun of our own this year, but our young labs returned from training not long ago, so next spring seemed like a better time. Do you keep Button outside in a hutch? Does Maude ever pester him?

Thanks for sharing yet another awesome post with us, Clara!

    1. Aw, thank you so much, Camille! πŸ™‚
Thanks, I’m so glad you like it! I got it from a site called that I LOVE. I couldn’t find the exact link, but here’s a very similar one:
Haha, I’m glad I’m not alone! At least their webs are pretty to look at. πŸ˜‰
Thank you! Ooh, I hope you’re able to get a bunny soon – they’re really neat pets to have. We keep Button and his brother Banjo on our front porch in a large dog crate that opens into a collapsible bunny playpen so they have room to hop around. πŸ™‚ Maude used to terrorize our first rabbit, Cottontail, but she’s never really messed with Button and Banjo, so I guess it just depends on the dog! I definitely wouldn’t trust a dog alone with bunnies, though. πŸ˜‰ My older sister is a rabbit expert, so I got a few helpful links from her in case you wanted some more information on bunnies. πŸ˜€

I hope those are helpful! Thank you so much for your kind comment!

    1. Thank you so much, Tori! Yeah, I can see how the beach would be frustrating if you don’t like sand. πŸ˜› The book festival was super fun – I hope you’re able to visit one sometime!

  4. Such amazing photography! I was actually at the Decatur Book Festival, too! If you don’t mind saying, do you live in Georgia or did you travel a bit to go see it? Thanks for the amazing post!

    1. Thanks, Isabella! Wow, really? That’s so neat! I’d rather not share my exact location online, but I did have to travel a bit to get there. πŸ˜‰ Thank you for commenting!

  5. WOOP WOOP, another photography post! Good job curating! It’s always hard, believe me. (Says the girl who makes posts with a VERY LITTLE amount of pictures…IT WAS HARD ONCE, I PROMISE.) Ooh, Florida! Also I love your shirt! Ha ha, oh dear. That reminds me of when we went to the lake last month and I didn’t bring a swimsuit. I was regretting that decision. shakes head

OOHHH A BOOK FESTIVAL. I’ve never been to one but I HAVE been to a book sale, where I recently got A STEAL on a HUGE amount of books. ANYWAYS, ooh, BOOKS! And I’ll bet it was so exciting to meet the authors! I’ve never met any authors yet, but then, my favorite authors I don’t think I’ll ever meet unless I figure out how to travel back in time…

Ooh, I love that first picture of the flag! I haven’t been to Fort Clinch but wait, CLARA! WE LOVE AMELIA ISLAND! We’ve been several times! Huh, and so has Allison…anyway we went to the fort at St. Augustine, which was fun.

Maude! Awwww. Wait, how did I not know that Ember was the name of your cat? That’s such a great name, too! and AWWWW RUNTY. (ha ha the name XD) I love orange cats. BUNNIIIEEESSS! Ha ha, I know, aren’t they just…so SQUISHY? Ha ha, the sunglasses are GREAT. XD Button should keep that fashion statement, yes indeedy.

GROSS SPIDERS. moves on quickly Ooh, those movie theater pictures are so cool! BA HA HA HAVE I EVER KILLED A PLANT. I laugh because the real thing to ask is have I NOT killed a plant. XD

Also this is completely unrelated but…a while back you asked for music recommendations, and I didn’t have any but I DO NOW. And you have probably heard about this band from Megan but HAVE YOU LISTENED TO THE GRAY HAVENS?

Great post, Clara! I much enjoyed it. πŸ™‚

    1. YAY! Thank you, Aria! πŸ˜€
Haha, thanks! Oh dear, that doesn’t sound fun. XD
OOH A BOOK SALE SOUNDS AMAZING. Yeah, it was super exciting! Haha, I can relate to that. πŸ˜›
Thank you! gasp That’s so neat! It’s such a beautiful place. ❀
Aw, thanks! Yep, orange cats are so cute. YES BUNNIES ARE AMAZINGLY SQUISHY. Haha, I quite agree. XD
OH DEAR, ARIA. Those poor plants… XD
Oooh, yes!! Megan told me about The Gray Havens and I think they’re great! I haven’t listened to a ton of their music yet, but I’ve loved what I have listened to. πŸ˜€ Thank you for the suggestion, and thanks for the wonderful comment!

  6. Your photos are fantastic! These could totally all be stock photos. You should make prints or posters!
I have one dog named Chewy. He’s a Maltese and is so adorable! That movie theater looks really cool – I love how you captured the little details there. And now I want a bunny. XD

  7. Your photos are so gorgeous, Clara! I loved the ones of the Civil War Fort especially.
And aw, sorry about your succulent. I’m pretty sure that I killed my basil plant too… it died out pretty quickly due to a combination of factors including me forgetting to water it, its natural life cycle, and the terrible city air. XD

  8. HOOOOOOOWWWW ON EARTH HAVE I NOT READ THIS YET?? THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. O.o I don’t believe it showed up in my Reader, although it’s possible that I just forgot to click it… ANYWAY. THIS. WAS. GREAT.

Ahhhhh yes, I absolutely LOVE the beach. ❀ But yikes, sunburns are not fun. O.o I hope you bring sunscreen and swimming suits next time! πŸ˜› The one of you looking at the ocean is so cute! I also really like the one of the seagull flying over the water. πŸ™‚ Hmm, my favorite thing to do at the beach… THAT’S SO HARD. I love jumping waves and looking for seashells, but I suppose I prefer the former just a tad. πŸ˜‰

I’m so glad you had fun at the book festival! That sounds super neat! I haven’t met any authors yet, but I’m hoping Trenton Lee Stewart will reply to our letter… πŸ˜› My favorite picture from this section was the second one of the guy playing music. I love the bright colors!

At first I thought you were talking about St. Augustine which I’ve visited (as Aria mentioned, we’ve been to Amelia Island to and it is THE BEST!), but Fort Clinch looks pretty neat! I absolutely LOVE the first picture of the flag – it really does look like a stock photo! To be honest I don’t TERRIBLY enjoy visiting historical monuments – I’d rather visit some natural thing like a National Park or mountains, geysers, etc. – so I’m not exactly sure what my favorite is. πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜›

AHHHH! AHHHHH, FURRY THINGS WAS THE BEST CATEGORY YES IT WAS. I’m so glad Maude enjoyed her birthday (if not her hat πŸ˜› ). πŸ™‚ BAHAHAHA, that picture of Ember IS hilarious. XD She looks kind of like Tom looks most of the time. :’D I think the pictures of Ember in the truck are marvelous, dear! My favorite is this one:
ALSO MY FAVORITE IS ALLLLL THE BUNNY PICTURES THEY ARE SO ADORABLE! (But still, Willow is giving them pretty stiff competition. πŸ˜‰ ) The one with the glasses is HILARIOUS, and so is the one with the hat! I love bunnies. happy sigh

There have been a ton of spiderwebs around our house too! Oh dear, I’m so sorry about Newt. 😦 My succulents are doing well, thankfully! One was looking pretty bad and stalky, but I trimmed off the top and replanted it, and now both halves are doing great! πŸ˜€ But yes, sadly Megan and I have killed plants before. And poor Puff the Magic Fern is still hanging on by a singly, fluffy leaf… πŸ˜›

Oh, am I finished? SNIIIFF XD That was SO much fun to read, dear – I enjoyed it muchly! AS ALWAYS. ❀ Hmm, I think the post length was good! I ALWAYS love your pictures, so I don’t really mind if you have long posts, heh heh. But if you posted the same pictures but divided them into smaller amounts (and therefore more posted often) I wouldn’t be opposed to that either. πŸ˜› XD XD

I KNOW IT IS SO HARD TO PICK FAVORITES, UGH. One thing that might help is to limit yourself to a few of each subject – like a few pictures of just waves, a few pictures of seagulls and waves, etc. Every single picture is BEAUTIFUL, but when you post a lot of similar ones, it’s easy to skim through those, which is sad because they are worth savoring. πŸ™‚ I think overall you did great with that, but two spots that might be improved by paring down were the ocean and the pictures of Ember. Like I said, each picture seriously IS gorgeous (YOU ARE SUCH AN AMAZING PHOTOGRAPHER I AM BEING COMPLETELY HONEST), but it would help them each shine if there fewer, in my opinion. πŸ™‚ And my least favorite picture… maybe on one of the sticker/graffiti pictures since they aren’t quite as interesting of subjects to me, as, say BUNNIES. XD

Oh dear, it’s so hard to give constructive criticism because I feel like I’m being rather mean. O.o I HOPE IT DIDN’T SOUND THAT WAY because I truly, truly love your posts and your pictures, dear, and I know that constructive criticism really is helpful to me, at least. ❀ Thank you SO much for posting your random photography – it brightens my day! πŸ˜€

    1. OH MY GOODNESS ALLISON YOU BASICALLY JUST WROTE AN ESSAY ON MY BLOG POST. XD XD I quite enjoyed reading it! πŸ˜‰ Haha, don’t worry at ALL about seeing this post late. There is absolutely no pressure at all to read/comment on my posts. πŸ™‚ (But I always enjoy it when you do!)
Agreed! I think a planned beach trip would probably be a little less painful. XD Thanks so much! Ooh, yes, those are both such fun things to do. πŸ˜€
YES I REALLY HOPE TRENTON LEE STEWART REPLIES. And thank you! That’s my favorite photo, too. πŸ™‚
It was super neat! Aww, thank you. πŸ™‚ Haha, yeah, I generally agree with you – historical monuments can be rather unexciting. πŸ˜›
EEEP I AGREE. Ooh, thank you! I really the blue background that the truck provides. πŸ™‚ Haha, yes, Willow’s cuteness may rival Button and Banjo’s. Maybe. XD YES BUNNIES ARE AMAZING.
Yay, I’m so glad that your succulents are doing well! Oh dear, poor Puff. I hope he survives!
I am SO glad you enjoyed reading my post! That makes me smile. πŸ™‚ AHH YES PICKING FAVORITES IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT. That’s great advice and something that I definitely need to work on! Thank you SO much. ❀ Don’t worry at all – that didn’t sound mean in any way, and it was very helpful! πŸ™‚
Thank you for the essay, Allison! πŸ˜‰ Your comments always make my day!
