Book Review || Unfurling by Allison Beery

Happy National Stuffing Day! Are you excited for Thanksgiving? What are your plans for this year? I can’t wait to start cooking heaps of delicious pies tomorrow. πŸ™‚ Cooking is probably my favorite part of Thanksgiving!

I’m super excited for today’s post because I’ll be reviewing a wonderful poetry book that was written by one of my favorite bloggers, Allison! Allison blogs over atΒ A Farm Girl’s Life and is an incredibly talented photographer, artist, and writer. She has posted quite a few poems on her blog, and recently she gathered her best poetry together (much of it unseen on her blog) and made it into a book! Many of you may have seen when AllisonΒ announced this book on her blog a few weeks ago.Β Unfurling is a total of 84 pages long and includes Allison’s original poetry and hand-drawn illustrations.

Isn’t the cover gorgeous? 😍 I love the pretty watercolor textures!

Allison’s poetry has a very whimsical quality to it, and every poem is extremely thought-provoking. As she writes in the author’s note at the beginning of the book, “I hope these poems remind you that there is hope growing everywhere, even in the hardest things. And I hope they’ll turn your heart to seek the One who is Beauty itself.” A theme of hope, beauty, and redemption is present throughout Allison’s poetry, and it always leaves me feeling encouraged and inspired. πŸ™‚

Aren’t the illustrations so pretty? ❀ They’re all very simple black-and-white drawings, which makes them stand out in stark contrast against the white page. Allison’s illustration style matches quite well with her poetry and both are absolutely beautiful!

I was fortunate enough to be a part of the editing process for this book, and it was such a fun/neat experience. πŸ˜€ Allison is an incredibly talented writer, and helping to edit her book made me add “book editor” to my extremely long list of future dream jobs. πŸ˜‰

Unfurling is, in my opinion, the perfect length for a book of poetry – it’s just long enough to finish in one rainy afternoon. A warm drink and a cozy blanket are highly recommended for maximum enjoyment!

Are you ready to buy your own copy of this lovely little book? Unfurling only costs $7.99 + shipping, and it ships worldwide! Click here to get yourself a copy – you know you want one. XD

Did I mention that Unfurling has received Maude’s official lick of approval? It’s an extremely high honor in the world of dog authors, and Maude loved Allison’s book so much that she decided to make an exception and bestow the award upon a human book just this once. πŸ˜‰ She has a surprisingly excellent taste in literature, so I wouldn’t take her opinion lightly. XD

Overall, I loved reading Unfurling and I’m so glad that Allison decided to publish her poems! I had a lot of fun writing this review. πŸ™‚

Have an absolutely wonderful Thanksgiving, everyone!

Are you going to buy Allison’s book? Do you say “stuffing” or “dressing”?

Oh, sure thing! I use Montseratt for all the headings and such (it’s free on fonts.google.com), and the script font is called Asphalt (I’m not sure where I got it). πŸ˜€ Happy Thanksgiving!
