Summer Recap 2019

Greetings, everyone! How goes your day today? I hope you’ve had a great week!

SUMMER IS COMING TO AN END. Actually, it’s already ended for most people, with school starting and all. The weather is still quite warm here, but school kind of destroys the summer-y freedom. *sigh* I’ve written a rather scatterbrained, out-of-order summer recap that will hopefully be somewhat interesting to read! So… ONWARD. *raises sword*

summer recap 2019

  • I got a learner’s license – FINALLY. It only took me a year to get around to it… XD I failed the test the first time I took it, so that wasn’t fun. But it made my victory all the sweeter when I passed the second time, so YAY! πŸ˜€
  • participated in July Camp NaNo – Camp was really good this year, even if I had to lower my goal at the last second to avoid failure. :’) I wrote more than I ever have in a month’s time, mostly thanks to Madi being an epically motivating fun writing buddy. πŸ˜€
  • started violin lessons – This was a pleasant unexpected surprise! Through a series of fortunate events, we met someone who was willing to give me violin lessons through a weekly online video call – maybe not the ideal scenario, but there is NO ONE around here that teaches violin, so I was happy! She’s a wonderful teacher and I’ve already learned so much, so YAY. πŸ˜€
  • reached 500 followers – At last! Thanks so much for reading my posts, everyone. πŸ™‚ It was really fun to get to know y’all better through the q&a. (If you haven’t introduced yourself yet, click here and leave a comment, I’d love to meet you!)
  • went on road trips – YAY! My favorite thing. πŸ˜€ We’ve taken a few long trips this summer to various places, and I’ve enjoyed all of them – they’re great for writing letters and listening to music and general daydreaming and relaxing. πŸ™‚
  • lots of swimming – It wouldn’t be summer without swimming! I completely gave up on avoiding sunburns – I’ve looked beautifully red for months. :’) We enjoy having some sort of snack at the pool, so I’ve done a lot of baking this year and only had a few near-disasters in the process. πŸ˜€
  • went to a theme park – My family took a rather spontaneous trip to a nearby theme park this summer – we don’t do things like that very often, and it was a great memory. πŸ™‚ I took a ton of pictures and was greatly amused by my siblings’ enthusiasm about pretty much everything. XD
  • saw Toy Story 4 – THE BEST PART OF MY SUMMER WAS THIS MOVIE. *explodes just thinking about it* I was a little nervous it wouldn’t live up to the rest of the movies, but Pixar exceeded my expectations by 10000% and left me the happiest/saddest/most mind-blown human ever. IT WAS GREAT. πŸ˜€
  • read books – I haven’t read near as much as I have in past summers, but I’ve still discovered several excellent books this year. Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys, Fawkes by Nadine Brandes, and Sweep by Jonathan Auxier have been three favorites. πŸ˜€
  • watched sunsets – I’ve watched the sunset pretty much every night this summer, often while listening to music with a few of my siblings. It’s such a relaxing thing to do, and a great way to end the evening. ❀ I kind of really love to photograph sunsets, which is why that collage is so massive. πŸ˜€
  • won a short story contest – I placed first in a short story contest a few months back, so that was quite exciting! I promptly spent every last dollar of my prize on pre-ordering books. *wise nod* Hey, it counts towards writing research, right? πŸ˜€
  • went to concerts – We’ve been to three local concerts this summer. None of them were artists that I particularly loved, but nonetheless it was fun to practice concert photography and sing along with all the happy music-loving people!
  • celebrated Maude’s birthday – MAUDE TURNED EIGHT. *cries* She still acts like a puppy – you would never guess how old she is if you met her. She’s the most enthusiastic pup I’ve ever seen. XD I gave her many hugs and treats and a popsicle to celebrate her birthday, and she thanked me by smiling for the camera – just look at that happy squishable face! ❀
  • listened to musics – *gestures upward* BEHOLD, all the wonderful albums that I have listened to on repeat this summer. Ahhh, seeing them all together makes me happy. So many lovely songs! If you’re looking for new music, go check ’em all out. πŸ˜€

Thus ends a recap of my summer! There was so much more that happened, but those were a few of the highlights. πŸ˜€ I’d love to hear about your summer in the comments – what memories stood out to you the most?

Are you looking forward to autumn?

  2. My day is going GREAT today, you are such a nice blogger to ask readers how their day is going. I really can’t stand people who just rant the whole post and then expect everyone to shower them with sympathy, THAT IS WAY TOO ANNOYING. ALL HAIL HOW QUEEN CLARA THE FRIENDLYβ„’ IS A UNIQUE, SHINING LIGHT TO THE BLOGGING INTERWEBS. ❀️

β€œI’ve written a rather scatterbrained, out-of-order summer recap that will hopefully be somewhat interesting to read” I am SO EXCITED FOR THIS POST!! πŸ˜€

β€œraises sword” the darkness has started already

β€œIt only took me a year to get around to it… XD” Never feel bad for taking longer than most normal people, normal is horribly boring. πŸ˜€ CONGRATULATIONS on getting your learner’s license, that is no small feat!! I seriously admire your hard work and studying! I hope you have a ton of amazing music-filled road trips once you’re unstoppably confident in your driving skills!

β€œvictory all the sweeter when I passed the second time” VICTORY!!!

Camp NaNo was AMAZING! Thanks so much for participating AND being an epically motivating writing buddy too, and enduring all my many snippets. πŸ˜€ Have I mentioned how in love I am with the Lizzie-William-Bone-Sam story? :’)

Oh looky the lyric quote poster, it makes my heart so happy to see it on your epic beautiful bulletin board thingy 😍 Sorry about how I messed up the lyrics… apparently it’s β€œup, up, up” and not β€œback up up” πŸ˜‚

HURRAY FOR THOSE VIOLIN LESSONS! I hope they go super awesomely, violin sounds super hard, kudos to your amazing musical skills. πŸ˜€

Congratulations again on 500 followers!!! 😍 Oh my goodness, that’s so epic, but you deserve 5,000+ why is everyone living under a rock??

shakes uncontrollably flies off the chair bonks head dies five times rrrrOAD TRIPS!! I’m so glad you got to go on those, it sounds like they were amazing! 😍

That watermelon picture looks so pretty and aesthetic and Instagrammy, I love it. 😍 β€œlooked beautifully red for months” πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ If you can’t beat the sunburns, embrace them. professional nod And oh, only a FEW near-disasters. β˜ΊοΈπŸ˜€

HURRAY the theme park, and also that picture of the Ferris wheel looks so beautiful I could gaze at it for a million years and forget about 95928579285 responsibilities. (wait, what responsibilities, I just got out of the hospital πŸ˜€)

AWWWWW TOY STORY 4! I want to see that SO badly, it sounds amazing β€” I’m anxiously awaiting for it to become available on our movie-watching thingy. πŸ˜€ Do I need to see Toy Story 3 first for context?

Ahhh those books sound amazing, and there’s the heartbreakingly awesome Between Shades of Gray I’ve heard about :’) πŸ˜‚ Was Fawkes super good? That’s the #1 book I want to read the most right now!

That sunset collage is literally the most gorgeous collage my eyes have set eyes on (… I woke up at 1 PM buddy I don’t know what words are anymore okay) and the pictures in it are MASSIVELY BEAUTIFUL TO THE FULLEST EXTENT. 10000000% pure awesomeness. 😭 << overwhelmed sobs. πŸ˜€

WINNING THE SHORT STORY CONTEST LITERALLY SETS YOU ABOVE 395885829% OF WRITERS NOW YOU HAVE SOCIAL PROOF AND PEOPLE WILL TAKE YOUR AMAZINGNESS EVEN MORE SERIOUSLY. Congratulations a million times over, that is literally the coolest ever. 😍😍 In whose evil face will you flaunt that incredible victory? πŸ˜€

β€œsing along with all the happy music-loving people” I know that feeling!! That will make me have a good time even at concerts by people I don’t like that much. πŸ˜€ Maybe it’s peer pressure but all my life I have made it my mission to do the exact opposite of peer pressure so I’m pretty sure it’s just the happy musicy togetherness feeling you described. πŸ˜‚ Your concert photos are SO GOOD, I’m surprised the artists haven’t contacted you and asked to use them for their websites!

MAUDE!!! 😭 << happy sobs. I hope she had the bestest birthday! That is HILARIOUS she still acts like a puppy β€” I’m still five years old in my head so I think if I was a dog, I would totally be Maude. πŸ˜‚

MUSICS! Seeing all of those albums in one collage made my heart happy, too β€” musics are literally the best ever. There’s Pep Talks!! πŸ˜„ Did you notice the trumpet and chorus melody in Pep Talks (the song one) is the same as in Let Go? I LOVE how they framed the album like that!

(Thank you so much for trading music recommendations with me β€” my music knowledge has grown and my appreciation for different music genres has evolved and I never thought I’d love some songs that I love now! 😍 Please don’t hesitate to recommend a song, my music tastes are definitely different but I really love trying out new things, especially Clara-recommendedβ„’ items :’))

I hope you had the most amazing summer ever! The good, the bad, the ugly (well hopefully nothing massively ugly happened πŸ€—) β€” I hope all the ingredients mixed together to create something AWESOME for you! You deserve it πŸ˜€β€οΈ

Well you already know the highlights of my summer but the people stalking the comments section don’t so I’ll copy and paste them. πŸ˜€πŸ˜‚

My birthday and how many amazingly nice people I realized were me friends! :’) πŸ’•
the epic Camp NaNo catch-up days πŸ˜‚
life contemplations and how things that are tiny to other people (like an outing with family, doing something fun to music) are big huge wonderful happy adventures to me. 😌

I’m really, really looking forward to autumn, for reasons you probably already know. (No, Comment Stalker, I’m an elusive ninja and you won’t know until I share later.) My life awaits! Thanks for being such a great friend through everything!

I hope you love long comments β€” I just had so much to say about everything! (ClaraPostsβ„’ are literally the greatest of all time okay)

    I’M OUT.

Also your music is so wonderfully summery and I’m so happy you like Switchfoot and that you introduced me to more amazing bands and MUSIC IS WONDERMOUS.

Maude is indeed adorable!! But Maggie is squishier I think. I guess that’s what comes of not being a terribly fit dog. XD
Anyway. Great post, and it sounds like you had a great summer. Hopefully next year on my list of summer highlights will be “MEETING CLARA!!!” πŸ˜€

  6. (It took forever to write this, I got rudely interrupted by school πŸ˜‘)
I’m SO not ready for fall, because that means winter, and I hate winter. Luckily for me it won’t properly feel like fall until late October πŸ˜‚
Congrats on your driving permit thingie! I just finished drivers ed last week lol. I like back roads with high speed limits πŸ˜ƒ
    Such pretty sunset pics❀️
I had a good summer, thanks! Didn’t get to go to the beach, or swimming like at ALL since my sis broke her leg. πŸ˜‘ but camp nano was great and I’ve mostly kept up on my writing- I think I’m really going to finish this book!!! Someday. But it will happen. I also drew a ton of fanart and memes for it. πŸ˜ƒ #priorities

I’m not a fan of winter, either – and same here! Summer weather is holding on for a while longer. πŸ˜€
Thanks so much!! YES, driving fast is the best. :’)
Yay, I’m so glad you did! Aww, oh no, that’s unfortunate. :/ Yay, that’s exciting, YOU CAN DO IT. That sounds super fun. XD

  7. Colony House! I just found them this summer and have been listening to some of their music too! I don’t like most of it, but my favorite is This Beautiful Life.

Anyway, WOW, Clara, I love this post. πŸ™‚ And what a great summer it looks like you had! Those SUNSET PHOTOS OH MY. A friendish person recently showed me his star photography and I was like WHOAH HELP. You people and your incredible nature photography blows me over. I can line people up and tell them what to do and take pictures of them doing that but when it comes to nature, I need generous amounts of help. XD

And YAAYYY, you won a short story contest! You’re so gifted, Clara. In like…so many things. XD

Congrats upon getting your learner’s! I’m about to get mine this week. πŸ™‚ I’m worried I’m going to fail the tests, though…. XD

Anyway, awesome post, Clara. Looks like you had a lovely summer, and I did too. Some of my memories are classified for web sharing, but definitely one that sticks out was my surprise party. πŸ˜‰ My summer was filled with people and time with friends and it was wonderful and perfect in every way. ❀

And heyyy, I had no idea you were looking for a violin teacher! Had I known I would have totally offered to teach you, since I already teach Amie, but I’m glad you found one! Keep me in mind in case you have to stop taking lessons from her. πŸ™‚

Awww, thank you so much! ❀ HAHAHA. Hey, but the nature photography I’ve seen on your blog is great!! Seems like we’re opposites, portrait photography is really hard for me. XD

AW THANK YOU! So are you. πŸ˜€

Ahhh, have you taken the tests yet? I’m sure you’ll do great!!

Thank you so much! I’m so glad you had such a good summer, it sounds like it was full of lovely memories. πŸ™‚

Ohh, really? That’s so neat! I shall definitely keep you in mind for the future, then. πŸ˜€
