October Recent Photography + Playlist

Good morning! I hope you’re doing exceptionally well today. πŸ™‚

In this post, I’ll be combining two of my favorite things – music and photography! These posts are some of my favorites to write. This time around, I’ll be including my favorite lines from each song so you can enjoy the lyrical wonderfulness and perhaps be persuaded to check out some of these lovely artists. πŸ˜€ Let’s get on with it, shall we?

Dragons – Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors
take a few chances, a few worthy romances / go swimming in the ocean on New Year’s Day / don’t listen to the critics, stand up and bear witness / go slay all the dragons that stand in your way

Here’s Ember on her third birthday, being adorable. It’s really hard to believe it’s been three years since we found her as the most tiny, unbelievably cute kitten of all time.

Rowdy Heart, Broken Wing – Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors
I’ve got a rowdy heart and a broken wing / restless nights and the strangest dreams / staring at the sky, begging for some relief

Won’t Give Up – Colony House
oh, the pictures in my head / they roll like the movies / I shut my eyes to cut the thread / but my memory shows no mercy / still I won’t give up, no, I won’t give up now

open your heart / look for the sparks / we are the children of the promise

Maybe (feat. Natalie Hemby) – Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors
I’ve seen a mountain that I know I’ll never climb / and I’ve stood by the ocean, never learned to turn the tide / I didn’t need to join the circus, or hop a roller coaster ride / I can’t afford to spend any more time out of mind

She looks quite contemplative here. *pats her fuzzy head affectionately*

Heartache – Relient K
I never really chased my dream / never tried to catch a shooting star / I’m not really sure how my dream found me / I guess that’s the way you are

Firebird – Owl City
we used to talk all night and not say a word / when I would hop into your red Firebird / and, man alive, we would drive just to drive around town / ’cause in your car we understood and figured out / that everything changes

Ezra + me in his bedroom doorway. Do you think that socks are superior to bare feet? (trick question, there’s only one right answer.) πŸ˜€

Black and Blue – Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors
when your heart starts breaking / the earth starts shaking / and the night falls at your feet / in your last good moment, your heart is open to me

I took this and the next few photos on the walk back to the car after a local open mic. This picture feels like some sort of writing prompt to me, but I’m not quite sure what the story is yet.

Going To Mars – Judah & The Lion
do what is right, fight for the truth / say something that means something to you / invest in the love, hope for the best / follow what’s in the left side of your chest

Hillside House – Wilder Woods
deep inside these walls / all the secrets, all we lost / if I was here and you were gone / would I ask myself, “did I waste it all?”

Good Light (acoustic) – Drew Holcomb
we’re all stumbling through the darkness / no one can stay there and still make it through / hey, there’s a good light shining in you / there’s a magic in your eyes

Everything Changes – Judah & The Lion
ain’t it funny, how everything changes? / ain’t it funny, how everything goes? / but You don’t change, You don’t change for anything / You won’t be moved

Now for our quiet kitchen at night, in black and white for added drama. πŸ˜€ I finished washing the dishes and wanted to capture how peaceful it was, plus the especially bright moonlight was creating interesting shadows in the room.

Looking For Some Light – Colony House
and when the world is weighing on your shoulder / when the sorrow’s heavy on your soul / carry on and sing it like a soldier / saying, “come on! come on! we’re gonna make it home!”

Family / Best Is Yet To Come – Judah & The Lion
I guess you’re just broken / I guess you’re just hoping for more / I guess you’re just reaching / I guess you’re just in need of love / but you’re not alone, you’re not alone / in this

This photo feels like a cliffhanger, like you’re holding your breath, waiting for 10:30. Or at least that’s how it seems to me. *thoughtful look*

Caught Me By Surprise – Colony House
would you walk for miles in the rain? / could you fight a battle with the pain? / if life begins to fade, will you remain? / leaving and escaping aren’t the same

Don’t Wait for Daylight – NEEDTOBREATHE
don’t wait for daylight / don’t run from tonight / just open your eyes / the stars fade with the light

I was trying to pretend I was fine, when inside it was war / with the stumbling beat of my heart and my feet / and the faults of my failure and pain / to think all of this time / I had wings that were ready to soar

Now I want some nice warm tea. *gazes longingly at the photo* I might end up starting a blogging civil war with such controversial questions, but… which is better, coffee or tea?

Religion – Wilder Woods
I was on my knees again / begging for my ways to change / but the truth I uncovered, the pressure I’m under / to please you has gone away

Local Construction – Relient K
fix the car, fix the house, fix the flaws in myself / it’s never done / it’s never done / like local construction, it’s never done

Make It Look So Easy – Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors
you were blue like the August midnight / you were a true story you’ve been telling your whole life / I was a bankrupt dreamer, busted up carnival ride / you jumped in the passenger seat and I came alive

Learning How To Love – Colony House
they say that trust, it takes time / that it’s a mountain to climb / I think that I am the reason why / I’ve been waiting for things to change in my heart again

COLOR! This is quite a grainy and strangely exposed photo. I came down the driveway a few weeks ago and stopped in my tracks when I saw a gorgeous, fog-shrouded sunset in one direction and a massive bright moon in the other. I ran back to the house for my camera, but the evening was so humid that I only had a few precious moments before my lens was completely fogged over, and of course I didn’t have anything to clean it with. XD So enjoy a few somewhat different foggy photos.

Live Forever – Drew Holcomb
laughter is the only thing that will keep you safe / in this world that’s crying, more and more every day / don’t let evil get you down / in this madness, spinning round and round

Nobody Knows – National Park Radio
nobody knows how to say goodbye / it seems so easy ’til you try / then the moment’s passed you by / nobody knows how to say goodbye

Remembered For – Colony House
this is what I want to be remembered for / everything else – you can set it on fire / I want to still be standing when it falls apart / I want to be a shoulder for the broken heart / it’s what I want to be remembered for

Be My Escape – Relient K
I’ve given up on giving up slowly / I’m blending in so you won’t even know me / apart from this whole world that shares my fate / this one last bullet you mention is my one last shot at redemption / because I know to live you must give your life away

Here’s a peacock. *nod* This lovely creature was at a zoo thingy we were at in August for Ezra’s birthday. It was meltingly hot, but there were a few photography opportunities, so all was not lost!

The Way Back Home – Lori McKenna
well, keep a Bible by your bed, even if you never read it / like a candle in the drawer, in case the lights go out / keep your feet on solid ground, but don’t ever let the stars go / that way you’ll always know / the way back home

Lullaby – Lord Huron
you arrive along with the sun / where have you been, darlin’, what have you done?

Flowers in fences. Alliteration! πŸ˜€

The Last Thing We Do – Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors
the congregation sang, but the preacher stayed home / with the kings, queens, and thieves all along / like a pilgrim without a place to roam / nobody saw us trying

Scared – Judah & The Lion
I’m scared of almost everything / there is a fear I hold inside of me / one thing I know / is I’m not scared of being alone

Keep Your Eyes Open – NEEDTOBREATHE
’cause if you never leave home, never let go / you’ll never make it to the great unknown / till you keep your eyes open, my love

And now we are approaching the end of today’s photos. Last week, Ezra and I wandered around outside until darkness fell. I convinced him to help me with sunset silhouettes, and he caught toads and asked me to to photograph them. It worked out nicely. πŸ˜€

VOICES – Switchfoot
my words come out like an avalanche in silence / and you’ve got oceans trapped in your eyelids / they tell me that no man is an island / but it feels like it’s a storm that I’ve been fighting

Look at that perfect moon! ❀ This picture is so relaxing to me. πŸ™‚

Bittersweet – Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors
you better take a picture, you better write it down / what you always wanted won’t always be around / it’s bittersweet, it’s bittersweet / every curtain falls eventually

Sleepin’ – Relient K
I’m not sleeping tonight / sit back and watch the sunset work its magic in its own true light / I’m not sleeping tonight / so come on over

*gazes happily at the sunset colors*

Another Man’s Shoes (acoustic) – Drew Holcomb
take the photograph, try to make it last / then the awkward laugh, doesn’t make it true / everyone’s got their own set of troubles, everyone’s got their own set of blues / everyone’s got their own set of struggles, walk a mile in another man’s shoes

Look on Up – Relient K
have you ever tried to photograph the moon? / well I have too, I have too
/ I find it funny how it never turns out right / it’s like someone poked a pinhole in the canvas of the night

Moving Forward – Colony House
on the shoulders of redemption, I found hope when hope was dead / I could lose it in a moment, so I dare not close my eyes / I’ll watch fear fall with the sunset / and see hope rise with the tide

Wild World – Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors
try a little tenderness, maybe some benefit of the doubt / another person’s point of view, try to listen not to shout / hold your opinions loosely, maybe you’re not always right / show a little mercy, and hold on to love real tight

Thanks for sticking around to the end of this post! Which photos were the most interesting to you? If you checked out any of those songs, did you enjoy them? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments! Thoughts on sunsets, socks, music, coffee, the fact that summer is leaving us, ukuleles, tigers, space travel… all random thoughts are welcome, I certainly give you enough of mine. πŸ˜€ *extremely professional nod*

Until next time! Have a lovely weekend, everyone. πŸ™‚

  2. Your photography is so pretty! ❀ The “Employee parking” one looks so mysterious and intriguing. Woah, your sink/kitchen setup looks almost exactly like ours! That’s funny. πŸ˜› I do enjoy coffee more, but tea is still so good! Especially in the morning while you study, or when you already had coffee and you can have almost unlimited mugs of tea. πŸ™‚ The big photo with the crescent moon is gorgeous! I love it seriously so much, and I agree about it calming me. I’m going to have to check out those songs and artists! I’m always looking for new music. πŸ˜€ I love these photography posts so much!

    snorts bare feet, obviously.
WOAH MY GOSH THAT MOON IS AMAZING 😱 if there is one thing that makes me want to buy a proper camera, its moon and star pictures.
Love the peacock, and the flowers 😍
-and that toad still makes me laugh πŸ˜†

    1. IT’S A METAPHOR, no actual dragons were harmed in the making of this post. πŸ˜€
      Hmm. glances at socks 🀨
THANKS, AND I KNOW RIGHT? Yeah, nighttime photography is my favorite. πŸ™‚
Thank you so much! Haha, same here. XD Thanks for the comment!!

  5. YAAY this was a great post and OOH MUSIC. I made a new playlist with all these songs and when I’m done commenting I’m gonna go listen to them while making art. πŸ˜€ So anyway:
YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY IS AMAZING. Like I say every time. I love all the photography subjects you choose. (Also that toad should be happy he escaped toad walking. XD) I really love the colors and composition and everything in the flowers in the fence photos!
Thoughts on sunsets… I don’t pay enough attention to them but when I stop and think about it, it’s so amazing that God gives us a beautiful unique painting every evening! socks…. Hmm well let me think. I’M THE BAREFOOT GAL so no socks for me.
    music… πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€
coffee… I like cream and sugar with a bit of coffee. XD I don’t like it plain. But I like iced coffees and lattes and mochas and such! And coffee ice cream!
the fact that summer is leaving us… SNIFFF although it was 100 degrees today. What are you doing, October? I’m actually kinda ready for like 75 degree weather but NOT 50 degree weather. Sniff. And WILDFLOWERS DON’T LEAVE ME.
ukuleles… ahh I don’t know what to think of them!! I like them in “We’re Gonna Be Alright” but then they do seem a bit stereotypical like I’ve said… I suppose they’re fine. XD It’s nice that they’re fairly easy to learn how to play (according to my pen pal. nods).
tigers…. Are fine. I prefer lions I think.
space travel… I for one am all for letting you do the space travel. I’ll keep myself to one planet if that’s alright. XD I am glad we can learn what all is out there, and see how incredibly astonishing and vast and sorta creepy it all is though!
And a random thought: I’m not a huge fan of mini-vans.

    1. WHAT A GREAT COMMENT. applauds you
THANKS! Oooh, hooray, did you find anything that you liked? πŸ˜€
hides THANK YOU. :’) (Hehe yes. XD) Ooh yeah, those are some of my favorites too! πŸ™‚
I very muchly agree, sunsets never fail to amaze me. πŸ˜€ WHOA REALLY? I’m shocked, I had no idea. 0_0
nods agreeably to the beat of Air For Free
I don’t know whether I agree with you there because my experience with coffee is extremely limited. πŸ˜› Ooh yes, coffee ice cream. YUM.
100 DEGREES? Whoa, that’s warmer than here, it actually hasn’t been that hot. 0_0 Yeah, part of me is ready to be able to wear a jacket outside but then the flowers will be gone! sigh
I was listening to We’re Gonna Be Alright when I saw your comment. πŸ˜› Yeah, I also like them in Relient K’s songs like Sleepin’ and some others, they sound great in light summery music. Hehe yes. XD
Yay lions! I prefer tigers because they look more huggable, but hugging one probably wouldn’t be wise…
AGREED! Maybe I’ll send you a letter from space someday. πŸ˜€
Lovely random thought, and now I’m curious, what do you have against mini vans? XD I rather like ours, mostly because it’s easier to drive than the truck. πŸ˜€

  6. CLARA PHOTOS!!! hops off of toilet bonks head on bathroom floor and dies five times Yes of course I’m reading posts in the bathroom what else would I be doing with my life

Ahhhh your photos are so amazing, I especially love the writing-prompt-looking one and the silhouette ones. 😍😍😍 I love how the lamp Ezra is holding adds light to his silhouette! I’ve never seen that before and it’s AMAZING! Also I totally got a story idea from the writing prompt photo. :’) And I also think we have the same set of ceiling fans, from the ceiling-fan-handle-thingy photo!

Everyone knows socks are better than bare feet! If they don’t, they do not know life. πŸ˜ƒ

I’ll never forgive life for making summer go away. sobs for eternity But this fall weather is very pretty so I might actually have a good fall after all? Which is very surprising considering spring and summer are always the highlights of my year and fall is somewhat of a disappointment… WELL TIME FOR CHANGE song called Times Will Change plays

or maybe history is repeating itself in which case 2016 looks likes it’s repeating itself with the weather this fall so maybe I’m close to A REPEAT OF 2017 NEXT YEAR????

You did say all random thoughts were welcome. ☺️

I loved all the songs I recognized. 😍 ESPECIALLY GOING TO MARS AND BITTERSWEET, Bittersweet is so… well bittersweet 😭

Okay now my mother is asking if everything’s okay, apparently taking a million years in the bathroom reading blog posts is not normal. Better go get my shower and swig that coffee and have a good day :’) HAVE A GREAT DAY! β˜€οΈβ€οΈ
